The meaning of driving a car in a dream

The meaning of driving a car in a dream

When you dream about someone driving a car, you are in really rich territory to start understanding some of the fundamentals at work in your life.  Driving a car in dreams can reveal thoughts and feelings about who or what is controlling your life, how in or out of control you feel, and how clear you are about your goals or destination in life. These dreams can also give you advice about what you need to do to steer your life in the direction you would like it to go.

When dreaming about cars or driving, it is worth considering:

  • Who’s driving? Look at who is at the wheel; this can indicate who is controlling or influencing your choices in life. It may be you, and you may feel in control or not, or you may simply be a passenger with someone else driving like your parent, teacher or boss. This could mean you may need to look at how you have let their values and beliefs become your own, or how they are making decisions that you should be making.
  • How do you feel about who’s driving?  If you are happy, relaxed or exhilarated, that’s great! Even if it’s not you at the wheel, you may be letting your subconscious or intuition drive you, and this part of your self is helping you get where you want. If you aren’t happy with some one else driving, look for how your beliefs may need to change.
  • Do you get to your destination or do you get lost, break down or crash? A safe arrival can mean you are doing what you need to achieve your goals. If you need to put on the brakes in your driving dream, it might be worth reconsidering the current life path you are on and what you need to stop doing right now. Crashing can mean literally working so hard that your body “crashes” – this is often a clear sign to take some rest or slow down. Crashing can also be related to your emotional state. Maybe you have been in a relationship that has come to a sudden end, or you know one is about to (possibly deep down but you don’t want to admit to it) or maybe you fear the relationship ending and feel “out of control.” Remember this is not a prophecy of what will happen, just a reflection of your own fears and subconscious beliefs. Being lost in a dream can be an indication you feel lost as to what the direction of your life should be, and need to find your true purpose.

While having a dream about driving can highlight where you feel distressed, confused or out of control, by making small changes in your life you can take the wheel of your own destiny, and drive your own life forward with happy confidence.
