If you researched the saloons, brothels, and inns during that time, I think you’d take back your words. Who would say that a whore house is good? Who would say a saloon with no morals is good? Note the spelling, too. I wonder if people who grew up in that era and worked those places would agree with you.

Its depends on the area. Arkansas was “wild west” in 1820. Texas maybe until 1880. Arizona until the 1910s (arizona rangers). Mexico frontera further until 1920s and the revolution. Its all regional. For the usa 1910 seems ok

I just have a general impression of the defining era, and like almost every other era , it “faded out”. Mid-centry (mid 20th century) culture faded out. I was born in 1961, very much mid-century. But the 1970’s even showed obvious remnants of mid-century culture. Remember the Brady Bunch mid-century modern house? Anyway, I dismiss the idea of a defining marker representing the end of the Wild West. Why claim that 1890 isn’t the end because no suitable events happened when the earliest date nominated was because a Wild West show started? Really? A show marked the end? Ive seen movies about WWII that were made at the beginning of WWII. The Wild West faded out as it was gradually tamed and became less wild. My two vague, unofficial end dates might be 1890 and 1900. Because I associate the Wild West as in “the 1800’s”. But for some reason I associate “the Gay 90’s” as a separate era just after The Wild West, even though the Gay 90’s may have been an Eastern thing. Maybe the nominated date of 1995 is the best of those given in this article. It certainly isn’t no where near as early as 1883 or as suggested in this article 1880 (the end of the frontier). The Shootout at the O.K Corral in the frontier mining boomtown of Tombstone Arizona Territory happened in 1881. Still Wild as hell. Lawlessness is indeed a good single marker for Wild West definition. And it’s certainly not as late as 1912. That’s the year my Grandmother was born, and she wasn’t born in no Wild Wild West.
